Join our team

The ultimate mission of the Shechner Lab is twofold: to do great science, and to train great scientists. We’re always eager to expand our team of highly collaborative, highly energized RNA nerds. We welcome applications from UW Undergraduates and Graduate Students, and from Post-bacs and Postdocs coming from any institution. Because our funding and space are always changing, we advise interested parties to inquire in advance of the anticipated start date.

Postdoctoral Fellows

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR POSTDOC AD!

We are looking to recruit postdocs to lead several NIH-funded projects that interrogate the molecular mechanisms of RNA-driven subcellular compartmentalization. This includes projects examining the dynamics and regulation of biomolecular condensate assembly, the dysregulation of nuclear body architecture in disease and during therapeutic intervention, the regulatory mechanisms of transcriptional condensates, and pathogenic architectural RNAs. We are also interested in further developing O-MAP in a number of exciting ways.

Applicants should please reach out to David, with a cover letter describing your research interests and past accomplishments, and with a current curriculum vitae (CV) that contains the contact information for three personal references.

PhD Students

We are always excited to have Graduate Students rotate in the lab! Prospective students must be enrolled in a UW graduate program and rotate in the group before joining for their PhD studies. We recruit from the UW Pharmacology, MCB (Molecular and Cell Biology), BPSD (Biological Physics, Structure and Design), and MolES (Molecular Engineering Sciences) Graduate Programs. Students in other UW programs might be elligible to rotate and join, with departmental permission. Prospective students should reach out to David directly to discuss openings in the lab, potential rotation and thesis project ideas, and general lab logistics.

Undergraduate Students and Post-Bacs

SheqLab Undergrads are the best! Please send David a cover letter describing your research interests and past accomplishments (where appropriate), as well as a list of any relevant coursework in the biological sciences. Post-bacs applying for lab manager positions should have some prior lab experience; those with additional computation experience are particularly encouraged to apply.
