Meet Our Team

(Listed in the order they joined the lab).

  • David Shechner, PhD

    Principle Investigator

Dave did his undergraduate studies at Yale, and completed his PhD training in David Bartel’s lab at MIT. He was a JCCF postdoctoral fellow in John Rinn’s lab, at Harvard, before launching SheqLab at UW in 2017.

  • Ashley Tsue

    PhD Candidate, Pharmacology

Ashley completed her undergraduate training at Princeton, before joining the UW Pharmacology PhD program, in 2017. She is pioneering the development of new RNA-targeted proximity-proteomics tools.

  • Jessica Gianopulos

PhD Candidate, Molecular and Cell Biology (MCB) Co-mentored with Sita Kugel (Fred Hutch)

Jess was an undergraduate here at UW before beginning her PhD studies in MCB, in 2018. She is deciphering novel epigenetic mechanisms that contribute to oncogenesis in Pancreatic Cancer.

  • Evan Kania

    PhD Candidate, Pharmacology

Evan completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University, before joining the UW Pharmacolology program, in 2019. He pioneered the development of new RNA-targeted proximity-sequencing tools, and is now using those tools to interrogate cardiac development and disease.

  • Caitlin Anderson

    UW Undergraduate

Cait is a current Biochemistry Major here at UW. She joined the lab in 2020, and is helping to develop tools that will probe the signals that drive RNA subcellular localization.

  • Hayden Gizinski

    Post-bac Fellow/Lab Manager

Haden completed her undergraduate work here at UW, and now manages both our group and Yasemin Sancak’s lab. She’s using proximity-omics tools to interrogate changes in subcellular architecture in response to perturbation.

  • Maybe you?!?

We are always looking to expand our collaborative team of super RNA nerds. Interested students, postdocs, and other research scientists should see our “Join us!” page for details.
